How to manage your hygiene during your period?

If you have your period, your body is functioning well. To feel comfortable, here are some tips!

Menstruation is a good sign!

Menstruation is a perfectly natural phenomenon, which shows that you are in perfect health and that everything is working in your body.

Period blood is not dirty, it is even sterile until it comes out of your uterus. This means that it does not contain any microbes. It is only when it comes into contact with air that there can be odors. With good hygiene everything is fine!

How to do your (intimate) ablutions?

Your vagina is an important and fragile part of your body. It is made up of a set of good bacteria called vaginal flora. These good bacteria serve to protect your vagina from external aggressions and microbes.

One or two ablutions per day are enough. If you do it too much, or too hard, you risk having health problems with your vagina.

Here are the golden rules:

wash your hands every time you change your protection (before and after)
only wash the outside of your vagina, where there is hair (the inside cleans itself);
wash yourself using gentle movements, starting from the vagina and moving towards the buttocks, and not the other way around (otherwise, you risk getting infections);
use water and a little natural, mild, fragrance-free soap;
use your hands to wash yourself rather than a washcloth (often breeding grounds for germs),
take the time to dry yourself thoroughly.
do not put perfume on your private parts, on your panties and your sanitary napkins
do not completely remove the hair from your sexe: they serve to protect your private parts from infections.
Instead, use loose, cotton underwear.
Change menstrual protection every 4 hours

To stay fresh, avoid illness and be comfortable during your period, change your menstrual protection at least once every 4 hours during the day.

When you go out, remember to take what you need in your bag:

clean panties,
a water bottle,
a packet of tissues,
a small waterproof bag
at least 2 menstrual products.
Before your period arrives, prepare your stock of pads to feel at ease.

If you have any doubts, contact a midwife or gynecologist
