Puberty: what changes in the body?

Between the ages of 9 and 19, your body changes and everything turns upside down in your head. It’s normal, you’re going through puberty! Soon you will be a fulfilled young woman. But before that, let’s take the time to understand what’s going on in your body. Let’s go !

puberty: you become a woman

You have certainly noticed certain physical changes in your body, or that of your friends. It’s normal ! Between the ages of 9 and 19, young girls are in full puberty. This period is very important, because it is the moment in your life when you go from child to adult, from girl to young woman.

Your body produces several hormones that create physical and psychological changes in you. During puberty, you experience new emotions and start to think differently. In fact, you become more mature, and you begin to become a woman.

If you’ve ever had your period, you may have noticed some changes in yourself every month.

What changes at puberty?

External physical transformations:

your breasts start to come out (at first, one of your breasts may be slightly smaller, this is normal and this will slowly balance out);
hair grows on your private parts, on your legs and under your arms;
you grow, you gain weight and shape;
you have pimples;
you notice small white spots in your panties.
Inside your body, things change too. In your lower abdomen, your ovaries, your uterus, your vagina and your vulva develop… and your first period appears!

Puberty is also a phase of psychological changes:

You feel stronger emotions
you want to say your opinion
you are starting to be interested in boys
you are sometimes anxious
you pay more attention to what others think of you
you have a greater need for independence
you need people you trust to talk to
And how does it work for boys?

Wondering if boys also go through puberty? The answer is yes ! For them, it generally starts around 13 years old. During this period, their body changes a lot and they often need to talk about it too. Their voice becomes deeper, they are more interested in girls and their character asserts itself.

Physically: they grow and gain weight; they begin to have hair under their arms, on their penis and on their face (mustache, beard); their Adam’s apple develops (the lump in their neck); their penis enlarges and releases a thick white fluid called semen; they have acne.

A period of transformation

Puberty is a phase of great transformation. Everything changes and sometimes you don’t understand yourself.

Pay attention to these changes and your questions, and write them down on Weerwi or in a journal. This will allow you to better accept and understand these transformations.

You can also discuss it with people you trust. If something worries you, and you want to discuss it, you can also read this (link to “where to turn?”).
